How to Cut Calories While Drinking

With the holidays fast approaching along with mounds of cookies, candies, and huge holiday meals, it is probably wise to cut down where we can. And one place to cut down without losing out on any fun and flavor is during your drinking time.  Now I know what you're thinking- how could anyone suggest cutting into your drinking?!  But we promise, while won't make much of a difference in how you drink or how much flavor and fun you get out of it, it will make a huge difference in your waistband!

1. Turn your wine into a spritzer or your beer into a Lauder.

  • This will make your drink last longer and keep you from frequently going back for more.

2. Swap your alcoholic soda for a shot of liquor and a low-sugar chaser.

  • This will cut your calories being consumed by approximately 70%!

3. Include your alcohol intake in your daily calorie intake.

  • If you know that you'll be drinking in excess, save up calories in advance and keep track of what calories you consume to make sure you stay in your target range.

4. Alternate alcoholic drinks with low-calorie drinks or water.

  • This not only decreases the amount of calories you are likely to consume by quenching your thirst but also keeps you hydrated to combat the hangover you likely would have had!

5. Dilute your drink with club soda or sparkling water.

  • This makes your drink taste great and also serves as a great low-calorie alternative to your typical drinks.

6. End your night of drinking with sparkling water to quench your thirst.

  • This will prevent you from using alcohol as a way to end the evening and quench your late night thirst.

7. Never skip meals for alcohol!

  • A proper meal before drinking will line your stomach, slowing the rate at which alcohol is absorbed into the bloodstream.

Follow these simple tips and you'll be well on your way to avoiding the calories that come with drinking and focusing only on enjoying your beverage and night out! Sip well!
