Ah, Memorial Day Weekend. The unofficial start of summer, trips to the beach, backyard barbecues, family getaways, and of course all the great sales for those summer shopping sprees. Granted, this Memorial Day weekend will be different as we all try to figure out our new normal, but as things are opening up, we can entertain modified versions of Memorial Days of the past.
Backyard Barbecues- Nothing screams the start of summer like the delicious smells of burgers and hot dogs on the BBQ. While the veggies and meats are grilling, head into the kitchen and whip up some simple appetizers that can be made with minimal ingredients and are super yummy. Enjoy your first meal of the summer outside in the warm weather! Cheers to summertime. Feeling really festive this year? We have some great red, white and blue drinks that show off your patriotism.
Pool Parties- Need a reason to open up that pool a bit earlier this year? Have a family pool party and create some lasting memories. Even if it is not warm enough yet to swim(depending on where you live), open the pool, grab a drink and simply dip your feet in the pool. Blow up the inflatables, throw on some good tunes and let the good times roll. Be sure to have your camera ready as family pool parties make for some great photos for memories to come.
Make your own beach- Can’t make it to the beach this year? Don’t fret, simply create your very own oasis in your backyard. Granted, this one may take a little more work but in the end will be totally worth it. Take a peek at this great tutorial on how to transform even the smallest backyard into your very own beach. Don’t feel like going the extra mile, simply throw out some lawn chairs, grab a beach umbrella and bask in the sun. If you have little ones, grab some buckets, fill it up with water and let them dip their feet in the ‘ocean’.
Get outside- Why not enjoy the beautiful weather by visiting some local memorial parks? Maybe fill up your Portovino Daypack and head for the hills. Take a hike with your loved ones, feel the sun on your face and enjoy the coming of summer. Stop for a picnic lunch and simply just enjoy the time outside with friends and family.
No matter how you choose to spend your Memorial Day this weekend, make it special and one that you and your family will remember. We all need to relax and take the time to unwind especially in these trying times. Don’t forget to reflect and honor those who we have lost this Memorial Day. Check out this blog on the origins of Memorial Day. Don’t forget to say thank you to active servicemen and veterans who are always fighting to ensure our freedom. Then by all means, enjoy some much-needed R&R and fun. Three cheers to Red, White, and Blue
